SUPER
A NOTE FROM YOUR HOSTS
This website was created to act as your personal
invitation to participate in a free cycling event
known as the S.T.A.R. Event for years to come.
RIDE NOTABLES INCLUDE:

COST: This will always be a ride without an entry fee.

DATES: The event and the rain dates, will always be scheduled on the third and fourth Sundays in March, respectively.

If you have taken part in this event in the past, you know that we have moved the date around a bit, in an effort to fine tune its placement. Recently it has been decided that we shall settle on the Sundays stated above. Any future changes would be reflected by posts found on this site and on the official Facebook group of the S.T.A.R. Event.

CHARITY EVENTS: Our ride is has grown to become a great early season, distance training ride for many of our participants. Some of which have preset cycling goals involving local charity events, so they utilize this as one of their first long distance outings of the year, while training for such events as BIKE MS Tour of Citrus and Tour de Cure at Lakewood Ranch.

LONGER TRAIL. LONGER DISTANCE?: There aren't any plans to increase the ride to the new Upper Tampa Bay Trail (UTBT) trailhead (7020 Lutz-Lake Fern Road., Odessa, FL). The event will continue to have it's southern terminus located where the Suncoast Trail meets Lutz-Lake Fern Road, as in past years (keeping in mind that the paved trail leading west from this point is officially part of the U.T.B.T. system). Please note that THIS is where you need to meet up, if you are planning to join the ride from the south (immediately west of the overpass).

CONCLUDING: We would like to thank all of our riders for supporting our event in the past and with our eyes set on the future, we welcome new faces... and don't forget to both tell your friends and why not have them come pedal the Suncoast Trail too.

Your hosts look forward to riding with you in 2020.

LAST YEAR'S RIDE
The Suncoast Trail Annual Ride Event returned for its eighth anniversary edition on Sunday, March 17, 2019. The temperature was as perfect as could be expected for a March morning - the range was 62-70 during the day at the official start/finish in Odessa, FL. Noting that the historical Accuweather average has been a low of 51 and a high of 78.
The following statement comes from Danielle Greer, a first time S.T.A.R. Event participant in 2018, who described that experience well... "While I am an avid rider of the Suncoast Trail and have ridden from its beginning to end before, it was an entirely different experience with the S.T.A.R. Event. I got to ride my favorite trail with friendly cyclists sharing the same passion for riding. Everyone was encouraging and looked out for one another. The weather was perfect and the wind was tolerable on the way back. This is an event I look forward to participating in every year!"
Concluding, thanks to all that got up early and took part in the ride. Without your support there isn't a ride.

As for 2020, well... TJ and I look forward to having our old friends (those we call repeat offenders) and we welcome first timers come out and join the ride. With that said...
See you on

WEBMASTER'S NOTES

CJ here. Hope this finds you all doing well. Most of you know that I travel quite a bit with my job and I cannot always be around when this event is held. I do my best to make this webpage so that, with the exception of a few details - such as the date, it can be used as a guide and date resouce from year to year.

Unfortunately, this is not all that it takes to run the event properly. I have been blessed with an exceptional co-host, TJ Hunt, whose friendship stems back more than a decade. He has been the event's sole leader more than once and I want to let him know that I am grateful beyond words for his continued involvement and belief in the event.

I would also like to extend a special thanks to Jen Turner. For a few years now, she has been leading a group that meets up with the event riders via the Starkey Park Connector Trail.. This was something she just picked up and ran with and my appreciation is immense (Please note: If this option interests you please feel free to post a comment on the S.T.A.R. Event Facebook group. Simply click the Suncoast Trail sign below to be routed there).
