YOUR HOSTS

John Steeber - Left his roots in northern New Jersey in 1988 moving to Hawaii guided by his love for triathlons.  His love of cycling wasn't immediately recognized, but by the mid-90s, after moving back to the mainland, the transition had been made.  Currently, his passion is century riding and he has successfully turned every ride since December of 2007 into a century or more with a couple of doubles tossed in as well.

Speaking of centuries... John was given his nickname, "Century John", by his co-worker Tom Fennel, as he watched John ride centuries on a trainer aboard the ship they had worked on together. If the shoe fits... (put it into clipless pedals?)

Here, shore-side, when CJ is on his bike he can nearly always be found chronicling his centuries by snapping photos and shooting video. This backs his belief that, "A journal without words is nothing... Well, unless it is filled with pictures and video, then it is everything."

He also enjoys maintaining this webpage and making new cycling friends.

CJ's CHRONICLE

Timothy Hunt - A long time Suncoast Cycling Club member, Tim has been involved with many aspects of the Suncoast Cycling Club.

From dealing with routes, to being a motivator.

From volunteering his time behind the scenes at local cycling events to running his "Garage of Pain" training seassions with other club members during the winter months.

Tim has been a rider in the event formerly known as the MS-150 and has risen up to take the reigns, as the leader of the Suncoast Cycling Club-Chainwheel Drive BikeMS team.

Somehow, through it all, he still finds the time to successfully work a job, be both a husband and a dad.

A SENSE OF PRIDE

Of all the bicycle associated events and solo rides that your hosts have taken part in, they were asked what were their most proud moments turning the chainrings. The listings below was what they came up with.

CJ's FAB FIVE

"...making this list was easy, but I still felt bad having to leave out 2007 Bike Across Florida, two different 7 in 7 rides (7 centuries in 7 days) & a High Point to Cape May ride..."

5. 1997 - 1st time riding 3 centuries in 3 consecutive days. (2-mile, out & back course. Think: sewing needle).

4. 2011 - MapMyRide Tour de France Challenge: Rode 18 of 23 rides. 225th place out of 23,000 riders.

3. 2009 - Oldsmar to Jacksonville. Solo ride with support vehicle. 208 miles in 11h 52m.

2. 2012 - Seattle to Portland. 10,000+ rider event. 204 miles in 11h 26m.

1. 2014 - MapMyRide TdF Challenge: 2741 miles. Rode 22 of 23 rides. 1st place out of 56,000 participants.

Ultimately none of those gave back to CJ like the ones in his top 5 and they are...

TJ's FAB FIVE

TJ spoke in length about his association with BikeMS, a ride that is bigger than the pride margins set below. From the days before the team concept surfaced, to when Chainwheel Drive hopped aboard, to the most recent years, Tim has been commandeering for a cause that is obviously close heart for  years.

5. 2008 - The Comeback. A return to the saddle after 4 surgeries & nabbing 5,000+ miles for the year.

4. 2010 - Joining Gearlink for the training rides. Experiencing the Gandy Bridge during Ride Around The Bay at 37 mph in a group of 50+ riders.

3. 1999-2000 - Asociation with the Diabetes Challenge. Being able to fine tune and seriously improve many aspects of the event.

2. 1990 - Riding his first Bike-MS on a Schwinn Continental. Keep in mind: It was both excessively heavy and not the proper size.

1. 2013 - Attempting and completing the Six Gap event after a comeback that included a total of 5 surgeries.
